Visit Grindham
Grindham is an imaginary town in Somerset which has
been created in miniature to a scale of 4mm/ft. The scenic part
of the model is 24ft long and as well as the railway, features
the town centre. The buildings are all scratchbuilt, mainly from
card,
with shops, pubs, Civic buildings and the Parish Church among them.
Many of these buildings have minute interior details, and are
largely
the work of Peter Howell. This part of the site features a selection
of views of the model as well as some information about the models.
Model Ship Pictures
The growing fleet of WW2 era ships built with my
son Ben are featured. There are photographs of completed models
as
well as work in progress in the Shipyard.
Aircraft & Military Models
This new section of the site is currently under construction;
please feel free to visit and view progress.

Model Railway Pictures
Here you can see some of the model locomotives and
rolling stock that I have built for Grindham. They are mostly built
to P4 standard (4mm/ft, 18.83mm gauge) - although there are examples
of earlier models built to OO gauge that are awaiting conversion.
The selection of pictures includes model locomotives, coaches and
wagons, both complete and in various stages of construction.
The layout also features a collection of contemporary
road vehicles, and a selection of these models is also included
in the photographic section.
Railmap
A website featuring a dynamic map of the West
Country railway system with links to useful information about stations
and features of the lines can be found at Railmap or
by looking under the "Useful Links" tab above. Fascinating and
highly recommended.

Locomotive Photograph
Finder
One of the oft quoted rules of Railway modelling
is "First find a photograph of your prototype..." This
is often easier said than done. If it is a steam locomotive you
are looking for, then this may help. Use the "Locomotive Finder"
tab above to search my database for references to 7522 photographs of 3162 different steam locomotives at 1151 locations that can be found in published
works. There are several different ways to search, from an individual
locomotive to list of engines at a particular location. You can
also use the system to look up the name of a steam locomotive, or
find the number for a particular name.
There is a distinct bias towards ex-Great Western
locomotives, but the database is growing and coverage of other British
Railway company stock is increasing.
